Bajaj is my favorite vehicles ever!
This noisy three wheel nanosecond speed vehicles really compatible for Jakarta's crowded and narrow street. Jakartan loves and loath bajaj. Bajaj driver doesn't have sense of traffic rule; never pull a brake, keep turn righ or left without warning only simply by hand waving. Inside bajaj you can barely talk because all the machine noisy. Don't riding bajaj more than 30 minute, your getting nause and turn into human milk shake. ^_^ Bajaj is vey bumpy. Bajaj is origin from India and adopted as Jakarta transportation in 1970's. You may consider it as Tuk tuk of Bangkok's twin sister. But Bajaj doesn't share a good fate like Tuk Tuk in Bangkok which upgradeted as tourist attraction. Bajaj can only find in resident area. Jakartan administration consider to abolish Bajaj because its noise and polutted. They want to change into more environment friendly vechicles. The things is, all the bajaj drivers have to buy a new vehicle and it doesn't come cheap. This plan still debating though. For me, bajaj still the best vechicle. Although bajaj rate not as cheap as before. Say a year ago. For instant for my home to Blok M , last year only cost Rp.5000 and now it cost about Rp. 8000,- sometimes higher. Well, it very understandable. Since a gas price keep climbing. If you have time, a gut and feel your andrenalin pumping. Try riding Bajaj once. You gonna love it.

Not only its my day off but Saturday is day for pampering myself by visit a beauty salon. Jakartan simply called it salon. Hey, I'm not super high maintain person but indeed spending half day in Salon like wash away all the weekday cramp. In Jakarta pampering in salon is not luxury things. You can find any salon that suit your budget. Either its a your-neighbour-run-salon or international named salon like Tony & Guy. Every Salon offer different kind of services. A regular one is creambath, cutting and blowing, colouring hair, manicure and pedicure. Creambath ( about Rp. 40,000,) , manicured and pedicure (about Rp.70.000) is my favority tipe of services. Total cost about Rp. 110.000,- Feel too expensive? Go to your-neigbour-run-salon. It's waaaay cheaper. Ceambath only cost 20.000,- and you can knock at their door anytime. Even in odds hours like 6 am or 10 pm. But, better booked in advance specially in wedding season or graduation season. They can be as busy as international beauty salon, too. And oh, you can call them to your house. What a service!

Bunderan HI (HI circles. HI is shorten from Hotel Indonesia, which across the circle) is one of the jakarta landmark. It's situated in central city and main street. Anything happened there will get a lot of attentions. No wonder many demos held here. Like this small one. Sometimes I never understand what they demos about. After the reformation (1998), there's many demos all over the cities specialy in Jakarta and right now we kind of used to with demos.

Mikrolet is easy to find. In fact Jakarta is overwhelming with mikrolets. This minibus sized public transportation design to accomodate Jakarta residen whose stay in suburb areas. Mikrolet able to get through small and narrow streets. Later on , they number keep rising and too many. Riding a mikrolet its bit tricky. The route is very long and passing so many narrow streets. Some time the driver change the route without notice. You have to really familiar with the routes or you will get lost. Welcome to the jungle of Jakarta. ^_^

Blok M is one of the most favorite place for Jakartan. This place always mention in every tourist book guidance. Situated in South Jakarta, Blok M consider as one of 24 hours busiest area. Blok M can be a starting point to go anywhere in Jakarta because there's a Blok M Bus terminal & busway terminal. Blok M is sooo big with a lot things to offer. From street foods, making tatoes, malls, karaoke and bar club. I just surf the net and quite surprise when I found a site about blok M (www.jakartablokm.com) which tell about nite life in Blok M area. Gee, I don't know if they really capture a real nite life in Blok M or not. Karaoke and bar in blok M has a bad reputation for most of Jakartan. Tell you the true, I never ever visit to karaoke in Blok M. But, once I visited to bar club there with a bunch of friends just to kil time. It was fun but I don't think I'd like to visit there again.

Jagung Bakar (corn grill, corn = jagung, grill = bakar) is very popular easy to grab snack for Jakartan. The Jagung Bakar sellers mostly found in rainy season or at nite. The jagung bakar orginally from Puncak ( its about 2-3 hours from Jakarta,famoust for week end gateaway). Now we don't have to go to Puncak to buy Jagung bakar. Jagung bakar seller different flavour: salty, hot, very hot, extra hot or sweet & hot.
